Wall HeART Wednesday!

I love beautiful spaces, interior design and of course photography…both portraiture and fine art, and have been meaning for quite some time now to share inspirational ideas for decorating with photography. So, I am pleased to officially introduce “Wall HeART Wednesdays” which I plan to post weekly. Be glad to know your thoughts so feel free to “like this” or leave some comment love.

Well now…that wasn’t so hard! I have no idea why I put it off so long! We all have family photos at home, in boxes or worse, images on our computers, unprinted (and yes, even I am guilty of this). Our images should be printed, framed, hung up on the walls of our homes for our families to enjoy everyday! Your family is your heart…thus Wall HeART!

It was a family affair…

It was definitely a family affair when Michaela, her 4 yo daughter Teileigh, her sister Whitney and last but not least, her fiance Ryan arrived at Sky Ranch for their summer photo session! We met back in April at the boutique studio to discuss the photo shoot and I knew then it was going to be fun and easy especially when adorable little Teileigh hugged me tight to say good-bye. Her mom and auntie are absolutely stunning and Ryan is a sweet gentle soul who it’s clear would do anything for the woman and girl that he loves.

Summer of Love

How can it be that Tom and Teresa are the parents of teen girls?…they look like teenagers themselves, so very much in love, smooching one another with reckless abandon leaning against the old Dodge. This is the joy of what I do. Meeting people who value their love, their family and want to capture the moment for all times sake in imagery. Teresa’s daughter, Melissa was one of my 2011 Senior Spokesmodels for Susann Saarel Seniors. See Melissa’s blog post here and here and her Senior Spokesmodel video here. Mom, Teresa has been planning the family session for some time, knowing that time is really of the essence now that Melissa has graduated from Baker High and with youngest daughter Ashlee now a freshman at Baker. I so very much appreciate their making the trek to Sky Ranch via an overnight stay in Billings for their “Summer of Love” family photo session!

The snow was coming down hard and it was colder than cold the day of this holiday mini-session, but you know what? The weather was not going to improve anytime soon and if you are from around here…you KNOW that I am talking about subzero temps, blizzards, whiteout conditions and road closures. Thankfully, Sadie & Zelko and their adorable kids, Justin (13) and Luka (2) are a tough lot. Stay tuned for more of Sadie and her wonderful handmade children’s tipis. We have a tipi photo shoot scheduled for the Spring here at Sky Ranch. I’ll put up the link as soon as her new website is live!

Yesterday was Thanksgiving Day and there were so many things we were thankful for, to be sure, but in the end, it just really boils down to the basics…family, friends, a roof over our heads and food on the table. Still, I was a little extra thankful that after days of waking up at 4:30 am in order to plow, make breakfast & get the twins off to Ski Camp at Big Sky that we could sleep in! Thankful, that as a family we were all together, safe and sound knowing that all Park County roads were closed due to a blizzard and whiteout conditions. Thankful that we were warm & toasty in a house heated by propane and a crackling fire, when just days earlier we were 17 hours without heat in subzero temps. Thankful for modern luxuries like being able to watch Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on TV from our cabin on a mountain-top in Montana while we prepared a feast and baked desserts with our children. Thankful for YOU, my wonderful clients, many of whom have become friends over the years, and for being able to give to you images to cherish…those that define for you what you are thankful for.

I recently photographed this family of five, one that we have known as long as our children have attended elementary school together in Livingston. Over the years, there have been birthday parties, field trips, play dates, dirt bike races and class ski days between us. We’ve watched our children grow up together and I’m sure we’ll be watching them graduate together 7 years from now. So it was extra special to me to photograph this beautiful Livingston family…Jim & Tawni and their gorgeous children, Rydell, Ryleah and Raina recently at Sky Ranch and to create images of that which they cherish…their family and their love.

All bundled up, cozy and warm, cutie pie Jackson of Bozeman graces the cover of Montana Parent Magazine‘s November issue with panache. And just in time, too. It looks like snow is finally headed this way starting this weekend! I’m also excited to be providing my first cover for the Media Mavens, LLC…the new owners of Montana Parent Magazine and on glossy paper, no less!!!

This issue, the “babies & expectant parents” issue is full of great articles including places to bond with your baby in Bozeman as well as the must-read for parents of school-age children, “Bullying…is it more than Stick and Stones”. This beautiful Livingston family came to me recently for their first ever professional family portraits, and I’m so glad they did! Three year old Finn was as cute-as-can-be and an absolute delight to photograph as were his parents, Kathy Jo and Barth. It never ceases to warm my heart to see parents so totally in love with their child and so appreciative of and in love with each other…
