Snowbound on a Friday Night

March just came and went and so did the Spring equinox. I just LOVE that our days are now equally as long as our nights and that we have THAT many more hours in a day to do our chores like feed the horses and goats, but whats with all this snow???  We are literally getting dumped on!

If I didn’t know better, I’d think I was on a Hollywood movie set with a giant snow machine dropping snow incessantly on top of us for a remake of Dr. Zhivago. I’m beginning to feel like I’m at Varykino, the Gromeko estate in the Ural Mountains where Yuri holed up with Lara and her daughter, Katya, during the revolution. It was during that time that Yuri began to write the “Lara” poems for which he later became famous.  Our daughter, Larissa is named after the Julie Christie character, Larissa Antipova and our beloved Sky Ranch is much like Varykino in that it too is a haven of love, warmth and security in the midst of harsh weather and an uncertain world.  Like Lara, I am blessed to own a collection of poems written by a man who continues to express his love for me to this day through rythmic phrases as we journey through life together in all of its seasons.

drzhivago

And so, as evening falls and a warm fire crackles in the background, I think we’ll watch the epic film, Dr. Zhivago for the 100th time and be grateful that we are all together, safe and sound, warm and cozy as a family on a snowbound Friday night.
