Maybe I’ve been looking at too many of my twins’ hip clothing catalogues, especially Journeys Kidz. Or maybe I’ve been hanging out at too many skateboard parks watching my son, Sam take the plunge off the half-pipe. In the past year, we’ve been to skateboard parks in Livingston, Bozeman, Anaconda, Missoula, Billings and Columbus. Or maybe, just maybe, I was inspired by the kids’ bright and happy new summer clothes we just bought during our bi-annual Old Navy shopping spree and at LillyLu’s first post-explosion trunk show held at a spectacular private home in Bozeman this past weekend…
So when the mercury hit 78 degrees yesterday, I filled the car with a suitcase full of the kids’ bright new clothes and some cool props and headed to town with Doug to pick them up from school. Sam preferred to go skateboarding rather than entertain my vision for a photo shoot, but Larissa was happy to oblige. We hit some of the coolest and grungiest alleys in Livingston and finished off with a few photos on the rusty old staircase at the Civic Center (near the skateboard park, of course).
If you’re looking for an alternative to traditional children’s portraits, this is surely it! Larissa and I had a blast and now Sam can hardly wait his turn…(stay tuned)… If you’re a dude-mom like me (yep, my children have called me that and I’m taking it as a compliment), then your child is old enough and cool enough for an edgy, fashion-forward Children’s Urban Session!

Feel free to share the idea with your budding model or rock star by showing him or her my website and the new “Children’s Urban” portrait gallery. Sessions include several locations, outfit changes and styling. Be on the lookout for Senior Urban Sessions…coming soon…
