Love at Sky Ranch – Part III – Baby Love

Do I believe in love at first sight? I most certainly do! The deepest, purest love I had ever known consumed me the moment I saw my babies for the first time. Larissa was born first. When the nurse finally showed her to me I remember thinking Larissa’s was the smallest human face I had ever seen in my life. Sam’s face wasn’t much bigger. They were tiny little buggers, our twins…not anything like the “sumo” babies in the regular nursery, but Doug and I were in love…baby love.

One of the happiest days of my life (besides my wedding day and the birth of our twins) was when we were finally able to take our babies home to Sky Ranch after two weeks in the NICU in Great Falls. It was New Years Eve…the eve of Y2K. We rang in the New Year on our mountain-top and directed our eyes down valley at the stroke of midnight to see whether or not the lights of Livingston would go out as some had predicted.

The year 2000 was a busy year consumed with countless feedings, diapers and baths, feedings, diapers and baths. But mostly we were consumed by love and the miracle and perfection of what we had created.

Over the years, as our own babies have grown from newborns to toddlers to school-age children, I have been blessed to continue to welcome babies (and their parents) to Sky Ranch for photo sessions. The deep love and bond each parent has with their baby never ceases to affect me, reaching the depths of my heart. I am so grateful for the opportunity to create newborn and baby portraits as well as “new” family portraits as I know all too well, how precious and fleeting that first year is.

So at last, allow me to share with you some more Love at Sky Ranch (in the series started on Valentine’s Day) — Baby Love!
